Loving What I Do

Houses are in my blood.

Growing up, my dad was a general contractor.  I remember following my dad around when I was little waiting for him to hand me a few scraps and nails so I could attempt to build things of my own.  By the time I was 14 I was well versed in ditch digging, painting and yard work.  I worked my way through college on my dad’s payroll expanding my skill set learning to identify foundation issues, fixing plumbing leaks and learning a whole lot of fixer-upper skills.

The first house Stacie and I bought was a complete fixer-upper. My construction skills came in quite handy.

I worked an internship in an accounting office during graduate school.  It was meant to be a culmination of my studies but instead it was a turning point for me.  It highlighted the things I enjoyed most about work….and the things I didn’t enjoy.  I found myself feeling a bit claustrophobic being behind a desk for 10 hours a day, unable to make my own schedule, limited to work behind a computer no longer interacting with clients.  I missed helping people fall in love with their own house through the work I did in remodeling.  Shoot, I even missed the houses.

I went on to finish grad school and continued working for my dad taking on bigger projects and leading more complex remodeling projects.  I studied hard and earned my Masters in Accountancy but felt an insistent tug to self-employment and the world of accounting was not what I found myself imagining after graduation.

So I did what many college graduates do.  I began working full time in a field totally unrelated to my six years of school.  I slowly started building up my own clientele of homeowners who needed remodeling and I loved what I did.

But managing a construction business is difficult.  It requires a reliable team of specialists and it was hard finding folks I could count on to provide the level of service I desired.  I found myself loving the process of selling…from listening to my clients describe their dreams to making those dreams a reality.  It was that realization…that what I really loved was helping people fall in love with the house they had that opened up a new possibility to me.  I could still help people love where they live but I’d do it from another angle: Real estate sales.

Doing what I love makes everyday feel like a vacation.

I made the switch in 2007 and I haven’t looked back once.  I love what I do.

I love the people I meet and have the chance to work with.  I love the challenge of helping people sell their homes quickly and for the price they want.  I love helping buyers find the house that makes them happy.  I love helping folks see the good that Corpus Christi has to offer.  I love helping to make the process of buying, selling or managing property a less intimidating venture.  I really do love what I do and do what I love.
